The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering is an experienced and well-established department among regional universities, having started its master's degree education in the 1998-1999 academic year and its undergraduate education in the 1999-2000 academic year. There are two main branches of science in the department: Production Metallurgy and Materials Department. There are a sufficient number of academicians in our departments as professors, associate professors, doctoral faculty members, lecturers and research assistants. In the department, metallography, macro and microhardness, optical microscope imaging, heat treatment, surface treatments, welding, ceramics-biomaterials, powder metallurgy and nanotechnology, pyrometallurgy and ore preparation, hydrometallurgy, AAS and UV laboratories that can be used by undergraduate and graduate students and researchers. There are. Since 2000, the department has equipped more than 1000 students with professional knowledge, prepared them for business life and graduated them in order to become useful individuals for our country. Our graduates, İsdemir (İskenderun), Eti Aluminyum (Konya), Eti Krom A.Ş. (Elazığ), ENKA A.Ş. (Istanbul) and in fields such as iron and steel production, non-ferrous material production, casting, heat treatment, powder metallurgy, ceramics, composite, nano materials, biomaterials, welding, non-destructive testing. He works in operating companies. Our department; It encourages student mobility by providing opportunities to a large number of students through international and domestic mobilities such as Erasmus, Farabi and Mevlana. Similarly, department academics frequently benefit from these mobilities and contribute to the development of bilateral relations. Section; It also adopts the role of encouraging activities such as internships, graduation projects and technical trips.
Academicians of the department contribute to the economy of the region and the country by developing projects within the scope of the production of boron products, especially from the metallurgical riches of Elazığ province and its surroundings and the underground riches of our country. In some of the projects carried out, spin-off and start-up companies were established through Technopolises in the entrepreneurship ecosystem, and products for which patents were registered within the scope of intellectual and industrial rights were created. Some of our academics; He has produced remarkable work by completing projects such as 1001 and 1002 given by Tubitak and publishing articles and papers included in national and international indexes. International articles carried out through projects stand out with the number of citations they receive. Similarly; The highlight of the projects is that the project results were deemed worthy of the project performance award by TUBITAK. Again, some of our academicians have carried out studies on the production of boron products, especially with the projects they received from Ministries and funds such as BOREN. As a result of the studies, products with commercialization potential were obtained. There are also international bilateral cooperation projects undertaken by the academics of our department and they are still ongoing. Department academics, apart from education and project duties; They take part in many academic duties such as TUBITAK project jury members and referees, project consultants, project reporters, national and international journal editors and referees.
